Harriett Rigas, who received both her master's and doctorate in electrical engineering (1959 and 1963, respectively) was honored for her innovative teaching, research and educational administration. She was chair of the Michigan State University Department of Electrical Engineering after serving as chair of the Washington State University Department of Electrical Engineering. She developed the Washington State computer engineering curriculum and served on the National Academy of Sciences committee for scientific programs in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
