Explore Graduate Study Opportunities All this Week

Monday, October 26, 2009

More than 80,000 students at Kansas’ four-year public universities can learn about graduate and professional school opportunities through an online event beginning Monday, Oct. 26.

The Kansas Talent Consortium, a collaborative effort of career services offices from the state’s four-year public institutions, will hold the Graduate & Professional School E-vent, a weeklong series of online chats and webinars focusing on post-graduation options. The GPS E-vent will run Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30. GPS E-vent is free, however students must register at www.ecc.ku.edu to take part.

“The GPS E-Vent gives University of Kansas students tools to help them stand out when applying to grad school, law school, medical school or other professional programs,” said Lindsey McCaig, senior career services coordinator at KU’s Engineering Career Center. “By working together with our sister institutions in Kansas, we’ll give all Kansas students a chance to learn more about how to further their career aspirations through education.”

Webinar topics include:

• Tips for Applying to Graduate School, noon, Oct. 26, presented by representatives at Kansas State University
• Gaining a Competitive Edge for Law School, noon, Oct. 27, presented by Washburn University
• Overview of Medical & Health Related Career Opportunities, noon, Oct. 28, presented by Wichita State University
• Writing Effective Personal Statements, noon, Oct. 29, presented by Emporia State University.

In addition, college representatives will host online chats from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the week that let students get answers to their specific questions about programs and processes. Go to www.ecc.ku.edu to find links to register and see the complete list of topics.
