2011 Recognition Ceremony Heads to New Venue

Congratulations!  KU School of Engineering graduates have worked very hard. They, their families and friends should be very proud of this accomplishment.  To help celebrate this achievement, the KU School of Engineering will host a free recognition ceremony at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011, in Allen Fieldhouse, 1651 Naismith Dr.

Seating plan for 2011 Engineering Recognition Ceremony Important information for graduates and their guests:

Graduates should check in (already dressed in cap and gown) at the northwest doors of Allen Fieldhouse on level 1 at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, then proceed immediately to line up with classmates.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. for guests to begin seating themselves.  Guests may sit in sections 8-15 on levels 1, 2 and 3 .  Sections M and N are reserved for student seating (south end). The only elevator is on the south side of the fieldhouse.

Wheelchair access seating is available on the south end on level 1. This section is very limited, so please only one attendant per wheelchair. 

Free parking is available in the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, on the north side of Allen Fieldhouse, and there is some handicap parking to the south of Allen Fieldhouse.  If guests have trouble with walking long distances or stairs, it is recommended they be dropped off on Level 3 of the parking garage at the glass doors, which allows guests to walk directly to seating on level 2 of the fieldhouse.  The only elevator in Allen Fieldhouse is on the south side. 

A reception will be held immediately after the ceremony one level 1 of the fieldhouse on the north and south ends of the Booth Family Hall of Athletics.  Limited seating will be available for guests unable to stand. 

The ceremony is expected to last a little more than one hour.  The reception is informal and is meant to be a time to meet friends, introduce favorite faculty members, and enjoy this special time.  All are welcome to stay as long as they like, however most of graduates and guests will leave for other activities and celebrations within an hour or so.
