Alumnus to Offer Insight to Energy Sector

Allyn Risley, President of LNGas and a 1972 KU petroleum engineering graduate, will give personal reflections on engineering and business in the petroleum and energy industry as part of the SELF Speaker Series.  His address, coordinated by the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program, is set for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15,in the Spahr Engineering Classroom, 2 Eaton Hall.

Risley is a 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Engineering Service Award, the highest honor from the KU School of Engineering.  In 32 years at ConocoPhillips, Risley earned a reputation as a top expert in the industry in LNG project development. Using his engineering and technical skills, as well as his business knowledge, Risley updated and modernized a strategy to recoup “stranded” gas and ship it to population centers in a cost-effective, environmentally safe way.

Risley retired from ConocoPhillips in 2004 and brought the engineering and business expertise to the United Kingdom, where he served as vice president of Global Shipping for the BG Group.

He has been a loyal Jayhawk, too. Among his many KU-focused activities, he has served for many years on the School of Engineering Advisory Board and the KU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
