Fall Engineering Career Fair Schedules Record Number of Firms

KU Spring Career Fair

It’s a chance to make connections for that dream job, find the perfect internship, or just learn more about the career opportunities that engineering and computer science have to offer. The University of Kansas Engineering and Computing Career Fair is set for noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the Kansas Union.

The Engineering Career Center reports there are a record number of companies – more than 160 in all engineering disciplines – registered for this year’s event. Students should review the complete list of employers and study those of interest prior to arriving. The career fair is open to all KU students, but employers will primarily focus on making connections with students in engineering, computing and the hard sciences. Students should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resume to share with prospective employers.

The Engineering Career Center has several workshops to help students prepare for the career fair. 20 Tips in 20 Minutes for Career Fair Success – workshops that cover the basics of how to approach the career fair and connect with employers – are set for 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, and from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, in Eaton Hall room 1.

Sessions designed to help improve students’ interview skills are set for 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, in Eaton Hall room 1.

The KU Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers is hosting two events to help students prepare for the career fair. The first is a workshop at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Spahr Classroom that will provide comprehensive advice on how to prepare for Evening with Industry and the Engineering and Computing Career Fair. The event includes tips on dining etiquette, resume preparations, wardrobe advice and a mock career fair booth. It's open to all engineering students.

The second event is Evening with Industry, set for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Kansas Union Ballroom. Engineering and computing students can talk with employers, find out about job and internship opportunities, and make corporate connections. The cost is $5 for SWE members and $15 for non-members. Business attire and advance registration are required.

For additional information and tips on how to prepare for a career fair, students can go to the Engineering Career Center site, 1001 Eaton Hall, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
