KU Engineering Offers Nearly $2 Million to Prospective Freshmen

The University of Kansas School of Engineering, its departments and the KU Office of Admissions and Scholarships are offering more than $1.9 million in scholarships to its 2005 class of freshman engineering and computer science applicants.

The offers include special university scholarships for freshmen only, however, over the course of four years of study, the scholarship offers represent a $6.7 million commitment to the students.

The School of Engineering is dedicated to attracting the nation's best students, said Robb Sorem, associate dean for undergraduate studies in the School of Engineering. The overall quality of the pool is still at that outstanding level we demand. These are students who are intelligent and involved. With a KU Engineering education, they'll become leaders and do-ers, just like the KU Engineering alumni before them.

Of the more than 1,200 students who've applied, more than 750 have met the School of Engineering's high admission standards and been accepted to the school. About 400 of those students have been offered scholarships.

Engineering scholarships are made possible from generous contributions by KU Engineering alumni and friends to the Kansas University Endowment Association. KUEA is an independent, non-profit organization recognized by KU as the foundation for raising and managing private funds on behalf of the University. By securing donor contributions, and by wisely managing and investing the funds established from those contributions, KU Endowment provides an increasing amount of financial support for KU.
