Midcontinent Oil & Gas Expo and Prospect Fair Coming to Great Bend

The first ever Midcontinent Oil & Gas Expo and Prospect Fair will take place Sept. 12 at the Highland Hotel and Convention Center in Great Bend, Kan.

The event, coordinated by agencies based at the University of Kansas, is designed to bring together operators — individuals and companies that are integral to the production of oil and gas — and service companies to promote and enhance the transfer of technology. It also will provide a venue for operators to show prospects — projects that would benefit from additional partners or investors — to potential investors. More than 50 exhibitors will be on hand. Admission is free to the public.

"This will be a big event for the oil and gas industry in the mid-continent," said Rodney Reynolds, director of the North Midcontinent Region for the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (PTTC) and director of technology transfer for the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project at KU. "Events such as this provide networking opportunities for service companies and operators, which helps sustain oil and gas production from our mature marginal reservoirs in Kansas and surrounding states." The North Midcontinent PTTC is a cooperative project between the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project (TORP) and the Kansas Geological Survey, both located at KU.

There will be a variety of exhibits, including petroleum industry service company exhibits, large-scale exhibits outside the meeting hall, and prospects on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Technology presentations will be going on throughout the day. A free barbecue lunch, sponsored by Buckeye Supply, will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kansas Oil & Gas Museum in Great Bend. The expo will conduct a door-prize drawing for a laptop computer. The winning ticket will be drawn at 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 12.

This event will provide an opportunity to interact with a large number of service companies and operators in a single setting and is being held in conjunction with the annual Western Kansas Chapter of the American Petroleum Institute (API) golf tournament scheduled on Sept. 13.
