Partnership Honors Teachers

The University of Kansas School of Engineering and Perceptive Software, creator of enterprise content management solutions including ImageNow, today announced the launch of Educating Excellence, an awards program honoring outstanding Kansas and Kansas City-area high school science, technology, engineering and math teachers.

Each month throughout the 2010-11 academic year, a $1,000 award will be given to an outstanding teacher. Nine teachers in total will be recognized during the upcoming academic year, beginning in September and concluding in May.

“We are proud to be involved in this partnership recognizing the work of outstanding teachers in these critical areas,” said School of Engineering Dean Stuart Bell. “These educators work tirelessly to provide the foundation for students interested in careers that are in high demand.”

The partnership is part of the School of Engineering’s Building on Excellence Initiative — a long-term vision that drives growth in facilities, students, leadership and research.

“As a student at Hutchinson High School, a teacher recognized my interest and potential in math and science and helped guide me into my career as an engineer,” said Scott Coons, Perceptive Software president and CEO. “Realizing many students’ lives have been impacted by outstanding teachers throughout our state and the metro area, we launched this program to recognize teachers making a difference in the lives of students.”

Nominations for outstanding science, technology, engineering and math teachers can be submitted online at educatingexcellence.org. After a nomination is submitted, the nominator is asked to submit three letters of reference, one each from a current student, colleague and community member. Letters must be submitted by Aug. 1 to meet the fall award deadline or by Dec. 1 to meet the spring award deadline.

A committee composed of Perceptive Software employees and KU faculty and students will select award recipients. More information about the program is available at educatingexcellence.org. Questions can be directed to educatingexcellence@perceptivesoftware.com.
