SELF on the Road - Seattle - Day 5

Visit from Dr. Steve Nguyen

Wednesday started off with a visit from Dr. Steve Nguyen. The University of Kansas Alum empowered and inspired us with personal testimony as well as words of encouragement. Specifically highlighting the power behind a KU degree and making sure we recognize that we’re comparable to students from MIT, Stanford, and the Ivy Leagues when it comes to knowledge and talent. Following that, we headed off to KATERRA, a young company in the construction industry which wants to automate and streamline the construction process through advanced technology and prefabrication of structural and MEP components of the building.

Visit to Food Lifeline

After the Katerra visit, we traveled to Food Lifeline, an organization that works to supply food banks in western washington with fresh produce and other food items; a food bank for food banks. While there, we helped sort through donated food from grocery stores and local farmers, in order to give the different food banks quality food and good variety. In total we packed 11,725.8 meals, which comes out to about 14,071 lbs of food, Over 225 lbs per person!. After volunteering at The Food Lifeline, we refueled after a long day with a  group dinner at Djan’s Thai Restaurant. Not only were we lucky enough to have the opportunity to bond with fellows over good food and drinks, We  also had a surprise visit from SELF alum Wilson Hack. The perfect conclusion to an awesome day.
