Whether you’re on campus for another school year, or returning to the School of Engineering for the first time since orientation, welcome back! There area a wide range of activities to kick off the start of the new academic year. Here are a few of many important events in the next few weeks:




Engineering Graduate Student Orientation



Tuesday, August 14


10 a.m. to noon,
 Eaton Hall room 2


Lunch served noon to 1 p.m., Spahr Library.



All incoming graduate students are invited to attend orientation, which offers students an opportunity to meet graduate students and faculty, receive enrollment assistance, and obtain information about KU, the city of Lawrence, and the community. In addition, most departments host individual sessions, where students can connect with faculty, staff, and students in their area of interest.




Hawkweek Activities



Aug. 17-26



Incoming freshmen can take part in dozens of activities throughout the week that will familiarize them with the KU campus, KU traditions, their class schedules, the libraries and their new classmates.




Engineering Student Council Welcome Back

Catch up with classmates, enjoy some barbecue, make new friends and get involved in student organizations. This event is sponsored by Engineering Student Council.

Welcome back reception for National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and American Indian Science and Engineering Society.  Organizational photos will be taken.

Frosh Frenzy

A "Great Race" style dash across campus for incoming freshmen in the School of Engineering. Prizes, T-shirts and food. Wear athletic shoes and dress for the weather. This event is sponsored by Engineering Student Council.

Stick around after Frosh Frenzy for music, food, prize giveaways, and a chance to interact with engineering staff, faculty, and other new students. This event is sponsored by Engineering Student Council.




SWE Evening With Industry



Tuesday, Sept. 18


6 p.m. - 9 p.m.,


Kansas Union Ballroom, 5th floor.



Enjoy dinner as you schmooze with employers looking for eager and capable interns.  Cost is $5 for SWE members, $15 for nonmembers.  Reservations are due by Friday, Sept. 14. To register,
