The department of Mechanical Engineering and the biomechanics faculty encourage research participation by undergraduates!

Summer research by KU and other students:
For summers 2002-2004, we have received a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates Award.  This program allows enhanced reimbursement for undergraduate researchers and allow us to greatly expand our undergraduate summer research program.

For application and program details see our website for the 2003 Biomechanical Engineering Research Experience for Undergraduates:

Academic year research by KU students:
there is no formal application process.  Students are encouraged to investigate the research activities of biomechanics faculty, and to express their interest directly to the faculty member(s) with whom they would like to work.  Opportunities are also available in other engineering departments and at the KU Medical Center.

Academic year research can be done on a completely volunteer basis, but will generally be performed for academic credit.  In some cases, monetary support may be provided.
