Faculty to Head Back Into Classroom


The University of Kansas School of Engineering will host its annual teaching workshop for faculty from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, in the Spahr Engineering Classroom, 2 Eaton Hall. Ronald W. Welch, the 2006 ASEE National Outstanding Teaching Award recipient, is the guest speaker.

Welch has served as the program director for ExCEEd Teaching Workshop sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the last three years as well as a mentor and seminar presenter at the U.S. Military Academy for the last eight years. After 25 years in the U.S. Army, he is retiring and stepping back into the classroom as a professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Welch will discuss the fundamentals behind becoming an effective teacher by combining age-old techniques with innovation. Teaching styles conducive to student-centered learning will be emphasized.

Faculty in the School of Engineering, School of Architecture, School of Pharmacy and in the departments of Biology, Geography, Geology, Physics and Math are invited to attend. Guests should RSVP by Jan. 12, 2007, to
