Faculty Workshop Set for Jan. 18

Faculty in the University of Kansas School of Engineering will take part in a teaching workshop on January 18, 2006.

"Teaching for Learning: Student Misconceptions and How to Address Them," which begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Spahr Engineering Classroom, features Kevin Whitaker, associate engineering dean for academic programs and associate professor of aerospace engineering and mechanics at the University of Alabama.

The workshop will discuss student misconceptions as a barrier to meaningful learning and provide faculty members with an alternative instructional approach to help them and their students overcome such a barrier.

The KU School of Engineering and the KU members of the American Society for Engineering Education are sponsoring the event.

The workshop concludes with a noon luncheon for participants.
