SELF Speaker Series To Host CH2M HILL Senior VP


All School of Engineering students are invited to a presentation that will help maximize their workplace leadership skills as they prepare to enter the job market.

Mr. Joseph Ahearn, senior vice president of CH2M HILL Ltd., will present “Building an Engineers’ Leadership Culture” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Spahr Engineering Classroom, Eaton Hall at the University of Kansas. The presentation is the first lecture in the SELF Speaker Series hosted by KU’s Self Engineering Leadership Fellows. The lecture will address how to lead in today’s modern industry and understand principles that fuel competitiveness, create breakthrough change, and develop high-performing teams.

Ahearn has four decades of experience in the engineering sectors of transportation, environment, water, industrial design, and military infrastructure. He is well known and respected for his executive leadership within the field and has served as senior civil engineer for the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of major general.

On top of his professional accomplishments, Ahearn is a model citizen, actively participating in Engineers Without Borders U.S.A., the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Institute of Architects, and many more service and professional societies.

This SELF Speaker Series lecture is the first in what SELF Fellows expect will become an annual event. The SELF Program is an undergraduate enrichment program that aims to develop involved students into the talented business and industry leaders of tomorrow.
