Engineering to Honor High School Seniors in KC, Western Kansas

The University of Kansas School of Engineering will hold its annual Celebration of Excellence and Diversity receptions in November in Wichita and Kansas City.

The events are designed to encourage high-achieving seniors from under-represented minority groups to pursue degrees in engineering and computer science. Students invited to take part and their parents will be able to meet representatives from the School of Engineering, students in the KU School of Engineering and professionals in engineering and computer science from the area.

High school students who are African American, Hispanic or Native American will be able to ask questions of KU Engineering students with similar backgrounds during an Engineering Hawk Talk Panel at the event. In addition, the high school students will learn about career opportunities in engineering, engineering degree programs at KU, as well as scholarship information at the KU School of Engineering. Attendees also will take part in a scholarship ceremony that will award funds they can use toward tuition if they enroll in the KU School of Engineering in fall 2008.

The Wichita CED will begin at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Hawker Beechcraft, 9710 E. Central, Wichita, Kan. 61206. Students from Wichita and from a broad surrounding region will be invited to part.

The Kansas City CED will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, at EMBARQ, 5454 W. 110th Street, Overland Park, Kan., 66211. Students from the greater Kansas City region and a broad surrounding area will be invited to take part.
