Whether you’re starting another year in the School of Engineering or returning for the first time after your orientation visit, welcome back!

Faculty and staff in the KU School of Engineering have been busy during the summer, and some of that activity is evidenced in the wide range of events we have to kick off the new academic year.  Here are a few of many important events in the next few weeks:

Engineering Graduate Student Orientation

9:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

All incoming graduate students are invited to attend orientation, which offers students an opportunity to meet graduate students and faculty, receive enrollment assistance, and obtain information about KU, the city of Lawrence, and the community. In addition, most departments host individual sessions, where students can connect with faculty, staff, and students in their area of interest.


Hawkweek Activities

Aug. 19 - Aug. 27

Incoming freshmen can take part in dozens of activities throughout the week that will familiarize them with the KU campus, KU traditions, their class schedules, the libraries and their new classmates.

Held in conjunction with Rockin’ on Learned Lawn, School of Engineering faculty, staff and their families are invited to come mingle with students and colleagues, enjoy some delicious picnic fare and take part in a dessert competition.  


SWE Evening With Industry

Kansas Union Ballroom, 5th floor.

Enjoy dinner as you schmooze with employers looking for eager and capable interns.  Cost is $5 for SWE members, $12 for nonmembers.  Reservations are due by 9 a.m. Sept. 6.  Sponsored by the KU Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers in conjunction with the School of Engineering Office of Minority and Women’s Programs.
