Biography

What is the focus of your research as part of the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program?

My research has been focused on developing a polymer for regeneration and repair of meniscus tissue in the knee. Specifically, I am working to optimize a hyaluronic acid and pentanoate anhydride hydrogel to synthesize a scaffold that mimics the native meniscus structure.

What did you enjoy most about conducting undergraduate research?

I have enjoyed being able to connect with so many people at KU and outside of KU about different research topics. It is interesting to hear about exciting and novel research projects that are going on, as well as collaborate with researchers outside of my major.

Were you able to present your research or publish articles based on your research? If so, where?

I have presented my research at the Undergraduate Research Symposium at KU. I was awarded an Outstanding Presentation Award for my poster. I have also presented my research at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers annual conference. I am in the process of submitting a review paper on methods of healing meniscal tears.

What are your future academic and professional plans?

My future plans are to go to graduate school to earn a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. I am excited to apply all of my research experience and knowledge from my time at KU and as an Undergraduate Research Fellow to this new chapter of my life!
