George Nettles was honored for his leadership in sustaining an efficient coal mining industry.  He was president and CEO of Midwest Minerals, which constructed plants and provided equipment and services to coal mining operations throughout the world. He was vice president of the manufacturing division of the American Mining Congress, director of Kansas City Power & Light Co. and a director and chairman of the board of the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry.
