2026 KU Engineering Expo Draws Record Crowd

Record crowds attended each day of KU Engineering Expo in 2026.

The free, two-day event hosted by the School of Engineering offers hands-on experiences for K-8 students to explore the wonders of engineering.

An open house event on Sunday, Feb. 22, drew an estimated 800 people. Events on Monday, Feb. 23, which feature competitions and displays, brought in approximately 1,800 K-12 students — both of which are believed to surpass attendance at any previous engineering expo.

“Expo is an outstanding way for kids and their parents in the community to learn more about engineering, to meet our students and to see our facilities, so to have record crowds this year is rewarding for everyone involved,” said Lindsey McCaig, student engagement and outreach coordinator.

Engineering students manage the entire event. Engineering Student Council oversees dozens of engineering student organizations who plan and execute the interactive displays and competitions.

“Coordinating expo is a considerable undertaking for the entire school. Our student groups and volunteers did an excellent job in making this a successful event,” McCaig said. “We want to say, ‘thank you’ to all those who attend and we hope to see you next year.”

2027 expo is tentatively planned for Feb. 21-22. The expo has been a KU tradition since 1911.
