Five faculty members with a combined 127 years of experience at KU retired from the School of Engineering at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year. At a reception in May, colleagues shared career achievements and the lasting impact of each retiree.

They are:

  • Russ Ostermann, chemical and petroleum engineering. Started in 1992.
  • Carl Luchies, mechanical engineering. Started in 1996.
  • Jim Stiles, electrical engineering and computer science. Started in 1996.
  • Paulette Spencer, mechanical engineering. Started in 2007.
  • Ted Bergman, mechanical engineering. Started in 2012.
