October 2026 Spotlight

Ibilola Ogundare
PhD student, Civil Engineering

My research interests include procurement, alternative project delivery methods, performance measurement, and workforce optimization in the construction industry. To be more specific, my dissertation focuses on multi-craft workforce strategies and how they can affect project outcomes, including schedule performance, labor productivity, workforce utilization, staffing, and training.

Outside of school, I enjoy watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and traveling whenever I get the chance.

What made you choose KU's School of Engineering?

My advisor’s research was closely aligned with the kind of work I wanted to do, and that was a big part of the reason I chose KU. I also liked that Lawrence is a college town. Having lived in Lagos, Nigeria, which is much bigger and busier, I thought it would be a nice change of pace for graduate school and a good break from the hustle and bustle of a big city.

What is something that makes KU's School of Engineering different?

One thing I appreciate about KU’s School of Engineering is how willing people are to help. Faculty, staff, and students are approachable, and there is usually someone ready to point you in the right direction. There are also a lot of resources available to help students succeed academically and prepare for life after school.

What opportunities, beyond classes and research, have you participated in through KU’s School of Engineering?

Outside of classes and research, I have been involved with the Graduate Engineering Association, where I served as Professional Development Chair and helped organize activities and events for fellow graduate students. I have also volunteered with the Society of Women Engineers during the KU Engineering Expo. Along the way, I have been fortunate to receive several scholarships and awards, including recognition for my work as a graduate teaching assistant.
