Whether you are a first-year Jayhawk arriving to KU or returning for another exciting year, welcome (back) to campus! Several events are planned at the School of Engineering and across the university to greet students for the 2019-2020 academic year.

WELCOME BACK EVENTS
New Graduate Student Orientation
Lawrence Campus Orientation: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, LEEP2, G411
Edwards Campus Orientation: 5 p.m.- 7 p.m., Best Conference Center
Orientation offers students an opportunity to meet graduate students and faculty, gain valuable information about the advisor/advisee relationship, research and academic integrity, funding resources, receive enrollment assistance and obtain information about KU graduate programs, the city of Lawrence and the community.
IHAWKE: KUEST ONE Scholars Welcome
3:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 21, Eaton Hall Atrium, Lawrence Campus
This meet-and-greet event provides a chance for engineering students, faculty, and staff to Engineering Diversity & Women’s Program new KUEST ONE Scholars. Refreshments will be served.
KU Hawkweek
August 22-September 1, Various Locations Campus wide, Lawrence Campus
Incoming freshmen can take part in throughout the week that will familiarize them with the KU campus, KU traditions, their class schedules, the libraries and their new classmates.
University Welcome
9-10:30 a.m., Friday, August 23, Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence Campus
Hawk Week kicks off with the University Welcome. Incoming students will gather in historic Allen Fieldhouse to celebrate the start of their journey, meet university leaders and look ahead to the week's festivities.
Engineering Academic Welcome
10:30 a.m.-noon, Friday, August 23, Engineering Complex, Lawrence Campus
The School of Engineering's Academic Welcome is an opportunity for students to connect with and learn more about engineering resources. Students will tour the School of Engineering and visit with student organizations. The School will hold an interactive academic session to prepare students for the skills needed to succeed in engineering. Refreshments and giveaways will be provided.
Engineers Rock the Block
3 p.m., Sunday, August 25, LEEP2 & Engineering Courtyard, Lawrence Campus
Engineers Rock the Block is a welcome event, primarily aimed at first-year students, though all engineering students are welcome to attend. There will be lawn games, music and light refreshments.
Engineering Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Training Workshop
2-3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 3151 Learned Hall, Lawrence Campus
All graduate students working or planning to work as a graduate teaching assistant in engineering are encouraged to attend. This is the initial workshop in a series planned for the fall semester. This session will set the foundation for strategies and time management practices to help students succeed as teachers.
KU Graduate Student General Assembly
4:30-6 p.m., Thursday, August 29, G411 LEEP2, Lawrence Campus
All graduate students are encouraged to attend the Graduate Engineering Association (GEA) General Assembly. Learn more about this graduate engineering-focused organization, committees students can get involved in and events planned for the academic year. There will be a welcome BBQ in the Eaton Hall Atrium, with vegetarian options available.
KU Veterans & Military-Affiliated Student Welcome Back Meet-and-Greet
4:30-6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, The Nest on Ninth at the Oread, 1200 Oread Ave., Lawrence
The KU Veterans Alumni Network and KU Student Veterans of America invite all military-affiliated students, alumni, staff and faculty and their guests to kick off the academic year. Join us at the Oread Hotel, at the Nest on Ninth, for a happy hour with appetizers and refreshments.
This come-and-go event is FREE and open to the KU military-affiliated community (military, veterans, spouses, dependents) – students, alumni, staff and faculty, as well as their guests. RSVP HERE.
IHAWKe Diversity Programs Welcome
5 p.m., Thursday, September 5, LEEP2 McClendon Atrium, Lawrence Campus
IHAWKe Diversity & Women’s Program welcome provides a chance for all engineering students to learn more about the student groups which comprise IHAWKe (Indigenous, Hispanic, African-American, Women KU Engineers). Students can also meet the director of the program, Andrew Williams, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Graduate Engineering Programs Open House
2-5 p.m., Friday, September 13, 1420 LEEP2, Lawrence Campus
This event provides a chance to learn about KU Engineering’s nationally ranked graduate programs and current research initiatives. Students will have the opportunity to talk with current graduate students, learn more about the application process and explore funding resources.
School of Engineering Welcome Back
5-7:30 p.m., Friday, September 13, LEEP2 McClendon Atrium, Engineering Courtyard, Lawrence Campus
Enjoy fun games and free food from the School of Engineering. All students, faculty, staff and families welcome.
KU Edwards Campus Veterans Welcome Event
5:30 p.m.,Friday, September 16, Hawks Nest, Edwards Campus
This is a free, informal event for our student veterans and their families.
SWE Evening with Industry
5:30-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 17, Burge Union, Lawrence Campus
Evening With Industry is an annual dinner held the night before the fall Engineering and Computing Career Fair. It is a great networking opportunity for students and employers to visit prior to the career fair. Engineering and computing students get an exclusive opportunity to interact with prospective employers. Pre-registration and payment must be made in advance. The cost is $15 per person and registration is open to all engineering students.
Fall Engineering & Computing Career Fair
noon-5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, Kansas Union, 5th and 6th floors, Lawrence Campus
Employers and KU students can make career connections and explore job and internship possibilities. Students should dress professionally and research employers of interest.
Undergraduate Engineering Open House
8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, September 28, Engineering Complex, Lawrence Campus
The Engineering Open House is an opportunity for prospective undergraduate students and their families to explore the KU School of Engineering. There will be departmental information sessions that explore degree programs and career opportunities. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore KU Engineering’s state-of-the-art research labs and facilities through tours led by Engineering Student Ambassadors.
