Biography

What was the focus of your research as part of the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program?

My research endeavors deal with looking to improve the balance abilities of individuals with peripheral neuropathies caused by diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and aging. I am developing a vibrotactile device that can quantitatively analyze and improve one’s balance ability.

What did you enjoy most about conducting undergraduate research?

Undergraduate research has provided me an avenue to learn about a topic with which I am interested in much greater depth than a typical undergraduate class. It has allowed me to combine my interests in engineering and medicine with the goal of eventually helping millions of people who have balance deficiencies.

Were you able to present your research or publish articles based on your research? If so, where?

I presented my research at the 2020 Undergraduate Research Symposium at KU. I am hoping to continue this project and hopefully get to a point to publish my work prior to graduation.

What are your future academic and professional plans?

I have just recently been accepted to the KU School of Medicine and am looking forward to the new journey. I hope to innovate through whatever research opportunities arise during medical school and am excited to make a direct impact in individuals' lives on a daily basis.
