Biography

What is the focus of your research as part of the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program?

My research in the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program focuses on biomedical engineering, specifically studying cleft palates in a Biomedical Research Lab under Dr. Kenneth Fischer. I use 3D modeling software to reconstruct parts of a mouse’s palatal shelf, aiding research on cleft palate development. Collaborating with a medical doctor from KU Medical Center, I help evaluate these models for their relevance in medical research. This work enhances my technical skills while contributing to a deeper understanding of craniofacial abnormalities.

What is your favorite part of the Undergraduate Research Fellows program?

My favorite part of the Undergraduate Research Fellows program is the opportunity to develop my interpersonal skills through collaboration and discussion. I enjoy hearing about my peers' fascinating research, broadening my perspective on different fields. The program also helps me strengthen my research skills, from data analysis to effective communication of findings. Overall, it’s a great experience that allows me to grow both academically and professionally.

What are your future academic and professional plans?

My future plans include continuing my research in the Biomedical Research Lab until I graduate, further developing my skills in 3D modeling and medical research. Professionally, I aim to work in the medical industry, whether in research, manufacturing, or product development. I am particularly interested in the hearing aid industry, where I hope to contribute to innovative solutions for those with hearing impairments. Ultimately, I aspire to make a meaningful impact by improving medical technologies and patient outcomes.
