KU Engineering to honor 2 alumni with Distinguished Engineering Service Award
University of Kansas School of Engineering alumni Zack Holland and Brian McClendon will receive the school’s highest award in a ceremony set for 6 p.m. May 2. The Distinguished Engineering Service Award (DESA) is given each year to individuals who have maintained close association with the school and have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and to society.

SELF on the Road 2017 - Day 4
Our group's first stop on this beautiful Sunday morning was the Getty Center. The Center is known for its famous artworks, gardens, architecture and hill-top views of Los Angeles. In order to reach the center, our group took a 5-minute tram ride up the hill.
SELF ON THE ROAD 2017 - DAY 3
Saturday brought out our adventurous sides as we piled in the vans and traveled to Angeles National Forest to attempt to hike Mt. Baldy, the highest peak in the National Park, recommended by Dr. Wiles.

Today we visited the Center of the Universe, and I have a lovely sticker to prove it. We had the wonderful opportunity to visit NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). SELF Alumna Sarah Elizabeth McCandless was our tour guide.

The first day of SELF on the Road 2017 began with the senior cohort meeting at Kansas City International Airport before dawn in order to catch a plane to the beautiful city of Los Angeles, California.

The University of Kansas School of Engineering Recognition Ceremony will be from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 13, at Allen Fieldhouse, 1651 Naismith Drive. The event honors students who have applied to graduate during the spring and summer semesters.

On Thursday morning, the Fellows were greeted by several KU alumni at Chevron Philips Chemical. After arriving in Houston the day before, the group got to spend several hours speaking with CP Chem executives and hear their paths that led them to success within the chemicals industry.

On Wednesday morning, we loaded up the bus in Austin and prepared to drive to Houston to meet Bob Peebler at KIPP Houston High School, a public charter school. Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) schools were started in 1994 and focus on developing knowledge as well as character in their students.
