Biography

Alicia Phillips is an award winning, motivated, innovative, compassionate, hardworking, experienced lighting engineer who loves to smile, enjoys eating great food and keeps a supermom cape in her backpack. A 1995 KU BS Architectural Engineering graduate she takes pride in developing solutions, being a good listener that's easy to work with, valuing feedback and being an insightful leader. In her 25 year career of varied experiences Alicia has worn many hats involved with the process of building design and construction. With each of those hats, she has had opportunities to develop and lead, while also coaching, mentoring and sharing what she’s learned with others along the way. Her most memorable career experiences have been those that involved working in a cohesive inclusive team environment.

Alicia currently leads lighting design for the Store Design team at Target Corporation.  She lives in Minneapolis with her husband of 25 years, Bryan Phillips (ME’94) , also a KU Engineering graduate and their two daughters, Morgan, 20, and Kendall, 18 and Bernedoodle Bentley. Alicia’s couple of favorite KU Minority Engineering Program memories were attending the Region V NSBE conference in Dallas with her engineering brothers and spending time in Mrs Boldridge’s office learning the things that she needed to know that couldn’t be taught in the classroom.
